Waxing Q&A: How to Overcome the "Hairy Look"
Monday, August 31, 2009 at 04:34PM I love how smooth my legs feel after getting them waxed, but I find the growing out process difficult to bear. It’s summer time and I’d like to wear shorts but find it hard when I’m growing my leg hair out for my next appointment. Can you offer any tips to make the “hairy look” painless, and I’m not talking “ouch” pain, but self-confidence pain. What do you suggest?
You’re not alone, a lot of people ask our cerologists this same question!
When you get on a routine schedule of waxing every month the hair does start to thin out making it less obvious to you and to others. Truthfully, though, there's not much you can do to hide the grow-out in that last four or five days before a wax (maybe that’s where wearing longer pants and not sitting in direct sunlight comes in!). If you’re new to waxing I suggest you start in the fall/winter. The colder seasons provide a bit of “camouflage” – pants, boots, long skits – so it's easier in the beginning to hide your grow-out stage. By springtime your hair should be light enough to wear a skirt right up to your next waxing without anyone noticing.
It’s all about timing (when you start your waxing regime) and patience…and a little creative wardrobe adjustments! And, remember these two important things: one, the longer and more regularly you wax, the softer, lighter and thinner your hair grows back (so it’s less and less noticeable), and two, YOU probably notice the “unsightly” grow-out more than anyone else!!
Your friends,
Unfortunately the hardest part of waxing, especially in the summer, is letting your hair grow and the waiting in between appointments. I wax my legs and I just try to plan my wardrobe accordingly. Skirts and shorts for the first 3 weeks then it's capris and lightweight pants the last week. Sometimes I don't care and wear shorts the whole way through :) of course my hair is blonde and I have been waxing for a while.
