    Waxing Q&A: Waxing vs. Depilatories

I’ve been using an over the counter hair removal cream for my upper lip for a few years. The problem is that my hair grows back almost immediately. And, not only that, but I am starting to notice that my pores are getting bigger. Would waxing be a better alternative for me? What are the benefits of waxing vs. hair removal cream?

Over the counter products for hair removal are called depilatories. Depilatories are chemicals that simply "burn away" the hair above the surface of your skin. Depilatories essentially work the same way as shaving does in that the hair is still intact, lying below the skin, ready to resurface in just a few days.

Waxing, on the other hand, pulls the hair from the follicle (the part of the skin where the hair grows from), which is why your skin is free of hair for longer periods of time, because a new hair has to grow.

The benefits of waxing vs. depilatories are many. To name a few:

    1)    Hair will thin out over a period of consistent waxing
    2)    There are no harsh chemicals involved with waxing
    3)    Waxing is only needed once a month and after care is very simple.

As far as why your pores might be getting larger on your lip could be a result to a lot of different things. But, whatever the reason, remember that anytime you put a chemical on your skin you run the chance of having a reaction. We’d love to have you visit one of our Waxing the City studios to help explore your options or check out our Web site at www.waxingthecity.com

    Thanks!
