The reasons are clear: everybody knows that if “you trim the bushes the house looks bigger”…. Haha kidding! But seriously though, it’s simple, men don’t like hair either. You feel much cleaner and smoother with waxing, which can be appealing to our male cliental. After years of being told women are the queens of grooming, men too are coming around to the idea that a well-manicured and smooth body is well worth the time.

So what’s the deal with the male “boyzilian” anyway? Contrary to popular belief, this trend has overcome the stereotypes for being purely a “metro-sexual” male habit and actually encompasses men from across all age groups, backgrounds and sexual orientations. 

It’s not to say that a good amount of guys aren’t getting this procedure done because of pressure from their women; but aside from competitive swimmers and underwear models, we’d be lying if we said that was the only reason swarms of guys are requesting this below the belt treatment. Men, too, like the feeling of being hair free. We’ve found it has become somewhat of a Saturday afternoon tradition for many of our couples. Wake up, get breakfast, get a wax and go out for some beers. 

Well then, what exactly is going on down there, you ask? Simply put, anything and everything. Male waxing is just like it sounds, the removal of hair from your legs, armpits, stomachs and further south -- nothing out of the ordinary. For our guy Brazilians, everything from the bottom of the belly button to the crease in the leg gets removed. Most people think that the scrotum is not wax-able, but with hard wax, like the stuff we use, it’s possible and something we do on every client. We also include the inner part of the buttocks.  Viola; he has just received his first boyzilian. No bleaching or “pejazzling” takes place at WTC, although those are other procedures starting to make leaps in the male beauty world.

So whether you like it not (but I mean, come on, how could you not like it) the Boyzilian, Brozilian, Ultimate He-Wax, or whatever you’d like to call it is here to stay -- and we couldn’t be happier.

About WTC Training Center's Modeling Program: 

All of Waxing the City’s CEROLOGIST technicians participate in on-going minimal waxing standards training. From time to time, we look for MODELS to help us with this program. This is an opportunity for employees to get hands on experience in a learning environment. Models are rewarded by receiving the specified waxing services at a significant discount.

All “students” are licensed estheticians and employees of Waxing the City.  They have completed all of our preliminary educational requirements and are excellent technicians. The goal of our modeling program is to give our CEROLOGIST technicians real-life scenarios creating an opportunity to expand their waxing skills as they learn Waxing the City’s Minimal Waxing Standards.

Customer Expectations:

Models must understand that services are being provided by “CEROLOGIST technicians in training”, therefore:

• All services will be supervised by one of our trainers (2 people in the room)
• As in all learning environments, there may be inconsistencies from time to time in our defined techniques
• Specific services are needed on specific dates
• The service may take more time than a normal session          

In return, models will receive:

• Waxing services at a significant discount – 50% off normal price
• Pride and satisfaction that you are helping less experienced estheticians become “certified CEROLOGIST technicians”   

Model Requirements:

Models must meet the following requirements at time of service:

• Hair growth is minimum ¼” inch long (at least 2 weeks since your last shave is a good general rule)
• Limited time slots available
• Duration of service varies depending on what service is being performed
• Call if interested for complete listing of specific dates/times for various services

Haven’t heard of Mutts and Models? Mutts and Models is Denver’s premier canine and celebrity fashion show. Hand and leash, local philanthropists, celebrities and media personalities will strut down the runway with their dogs. All proceeds go to the Harrison Memorial Animal Hospital, which provides healthcare and other assistance for pets.

Q: I have never gotten a wax before, but my bikini line never seems to get as clean as I’d like with shaving. I’ve decided to try waxing because I want a very clean look for my upcoming vacation and don’t want to worry about being embarrassed about my bikini line. When should I get it done? Should I go more than once before my trip? I also feel like I have harder hair as well, but that could just be in my head. Help please!!!

A: Since you have never done any kind of bikini waxing, my suggestion with new clients is to let your hair grow out as long as possible before heading to the salon for your wax. The longer the hair, the better the results. I always recommend doing at least two waxes before an event such as a vacation, wedding, birthday… The first reason is to see how your skin reacts to the waxing process; how red and irritated your skin gets and how long it stays that way. The second reason is that the more of a routine you get into, the better your waxes will get.

Your first wax isn’t always perfect because the hair is course from never being waxed so it tends to break in some areas rather than being pulled from the root. When all the hair is pulled from the root, the re-growth takes longer, keeping you hair free longer! :)

Stop shaving now, let your hair grow and get one good wax two or three days before your departure date. This will leave time for the redness and irritation to go away. Keep in mind you don’t want to be in direct sunlight or any kind of standing water for 24-48 hours after being waxed. Freshly exfoliated skin (from the wax) can lead to severe burning or hyper pigmentation from direct sunlight. Also, your follicle is still open and can invite unwanted bacteria into that follicle, the kind of bacteria you find in standing water. Bottom line: don’t wax closer than two days from your trip.
